Tonsillitis is the infection that, as the name suggests, affects the tonsil of a person. Mostly occurring in young children, tonsillitis is caused either by a virus or a bacterium. There are three main types of tonsillitis - acute, subacute and chronic. While the former is of bacterial or viral origin, the second is caused by the bacterium Actinomyces and the third can be caused by any bacteria.
