Bronchitis is the infection that affects the bronchi or the main airways of lungs, resulting in its inflammation. A common phenomenon during winters, bronchitis often develops after cold, sore throat or influenza (flu). Men, women and children all are susceptible to the ailment. While the former is caused by viruses or bacteria and lasts for several days or weeks, the latter is a persistent, productive cough that lasts for at least three months, in two consecutive years.
